Decision Making Process and Critical Thinking Skills

Critical Thinking Skills
Einstein - Critical Thinking

Which is more important? The Decision Making Process or Critical Thinking Skills? Yesterday my post focused on the Decision Making Process...the steps…the importance of the very first decision in the process deciding “do I have a need”? And if you get this first decision wrong then obviously you have made a bad decision on the entire subject. For example, if you are making a decision as to whether you may need professionals to help you with a specific area of need and you decide that you don’t have a need in that area, when in fact you obviously do have a need, then you have ignored the need, not understood the potential consequences of ignoring the need, or you decide that you will take the risk and the consequences which typically is an irresponsible conclusion.

Just Look Up The Answers

I am sure that none of my readers want to consider themselves irresponsible.  Probably the most recurring conclusion is that…yes, I have the need but cannot afford to do anything about it. If this is the case then your income is not at the right levels and that is certainly an issue. You need to be talking with a competent person who can help you earn more money!

Decision Making Process

I see many very intelligent professionals make incorrect decisions on the first decision question in the decision process…“do I have a need?”  This specifically applies in the case of the decision on “do I need the services of a financial advisor, a CPA, a law firm, a business consultant or trainer, an insurance broker,  or a doctor”. Much of my life has been devoted to working with responsible people who realize that their lives can be much better if they elect to select and work with professionals in these fields. In building my practice as a financial advisor I found more than (300) people who agreed that it would be in their best interests to work with a professional financial advisor and respected company.

I consider that your decisions on these key issues really decide what level of financial independence you will ever achieve.RealLife I would encourage you as professionals and good business managers to rethink your decisions on key needs to accomplish financial independence and ask yourself…do I really need that professional or am I just kidding myself that I can do it myself? I assure you my friend if you have decided that you are going to do all of your professional jobs yourself, you will never have the opportunity to achieve financial independence. There is a thin line between mediocrity and brilliance…the same for excellent success and just getting by. Some describe it as an “edge”. What do you prefer for you and your family? Tomorrow’s post…a review of key professionals that I know can help you tremendously! Sometimes you may not know the right solutions for your needs.

Have You Considered Working From Home?

  • What are the benefits? What are the challenges and  disadvantages? Can you work from home and own your own business? Will my employer allow me to work from home? All are key questions that deserve careful consideration and evaluation!
  • With our new options of working from home either on a part-time basis or a full-time basis…you now have the choice of enjoying your family and loved ones more or working together with them from a home location. This is a great choice…as you can consider the comparative costs of traveling to and from work, the amount of time required to do so,  the important consideration of whom you want to spend your working time with, the relative efficiency of either working at an office, traveling, on the road or at your home.  All of these choices now allow us a new degree of freedom if we choose to exercise it.  For those who can utilize good work practices and work ethics, then potentially they can be much more efficient.
  • I will say that the freedom to work from home creates some challenges…like will you watch that favorite tv program or apply yourself to your work…will you set good work hours for yourself and keep them…it is very easy to be distracted with so many things that go on within your home. Personally I worked in several areas many years in large offices on scheduled hours, in my own personal offices, traveling the U.S. Monday through Friday calling on companies and using my motel as my  office, in one case I drove to and from work 50 miles each way and then traveled 13 states via airplane and automobile, and for the last few years I have elected to work from my home office. Of all of the experiences that I have had, I find that a home office is the most desirable for me…and I can pack my bags and take my home office across the country to any location in Florida, the U.S. or Canada…and accomplish what needs to be done effectively.  One of the greatest advantages to working from home for me is have access and be near those that I care the most about…that is the ones I love as well as my friends. When I spent most of my time each day at the office or on the road, I really missed the interaction with my loved ones. This is by far the greatest advantage that I hear from those who work from home.
  • Many people need the structure of going to an office to be with their other workers every day, or perhaps the work requires that they be present in order to accomplish what needs to be done. In any case, we now have an estimated 40 to 50 million people who are now working either part-time or full-time from home…or a traveling home at their choice. And given the economic environment and since the internet is only some 20 years old now, we are heading into a direction of many more people working from home…and using the internet and the phone as their telecommunications devices.

So studies have been completed to date comparing the pluses and minuses of where you work…there is yet to be grand comparison prepared about which is most efficient however some meaningful studies are emerging.

In summary, my opinions are that the option to work from home opens up many new opportunities and choices of where we want to work, and dependent upon your work requirements, your personal preferences for managing your own time, enjoying your freedom more, spending more time with your loved ones, all enter greatly into the equation of what you would like to do. I do strongly recommend that you consider all options available to you, and the underlying constraints of each. It is an important decision to make as you plan your career and I hope that you will give it ample and due consideration when the time comes.

Home Office vs. At the Office: Which Is More Efficient?

By Bruce Kennedy Posted 9:00AM  01/17/11

Call it telecommuting, telework or working from home: It appears more of us are earning at least part of our salaries from home, and with the boss’s blessings.

According to a survey by the human resources group WorldatWork, the number of Americans who work either from their homes or remotely at least one day a month rose by 74% between 2005 and 2008, to more than 17 million. And if you add to that figure the so-called “contract telecommuters” — folks who are self-employed or run their own businesses — the number jumps to nearly 34 million people.

Thank You Ted Cruz For Speaking For Americans Against ObamaCare Funding!

obamacarespeech2cruz.floor.gov

Millions of Americans want to thank you Ted Cruz, Mike Lee, Marco Rubio, Rand Paul and other supporters for speaking for 21+ hours on the Senate Floor on behalf of defunding ObamaCare! Your marathon speech created a lot of good according to many opinions, and you did this in the face of much vocal displeasure by some of your Republican colleagues and especially across the aisle with all of the Democrats.

The reason so many disliked your position is that they will have to answer to their voting constituents on their positions on ObamaCare. This Affordable Care Act Bill, which is in fact is grossly unaffordable, is an albatross hung on the necks of American citizens and businesses. For years the Democrats have promoted a government controlled health care system that would totally control all citizens both with healthcare and their financial lives. They now have legislation in place to do this…and are tightening the noose to get it implemented. Many Americans have no idea what is happening to them.

For this reason I for one am very pleased to see that true American Patriots have expressed the dissatisfaction of the American Public where 60-70% of the population do not want ObamaCare. Today’s post is dedicated to conservative Senators for speaking up for Americans…

Thank You Ted Cruz For Speaking For Americans Against ObamaCare Funding!

Many campaign promises by President Obama were made about ObamaCare which have turned out to be totally untrue. Not only were the American People misled but now the President, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi refuse to stop and acknowledge the trainwreck which is happening, however have granted more than 1400 waivers to companies and organizations to be exempt from the Bill.  Here are a few examples of total untruths presented by President and the Democratic Party…

Obamacare Will Increase Health Spending By $7,450 For A Typical Family of Four

Chris ConoverChris Conover, Contributor      9/23/2013

It was one of candidate Obama’s most vivid and concrete campaign promises. Forget about high minded (some might say high sounding) but gauzy promises of hope and change. This candidate solemnly pledged on June 5, 2008: “In an Obama administration, we’ll lower premiums by up to $2,500 for a typical family per year….. We’ll do it by the end of my first term as President of the United States.”  Unfortunately, the experts working for Medicare’s actuary have (yet again[1]) reported that in its first 10 years, Obamacare will boost health spending by “roughly $621 billion” above the amounts Americans would have spent without this misguided law.

Congress’s ObamaCare Exemption

The President intervenes to give Members and staff a break.

To adapt H.L. Mencken, nobody ever went broke underestimating the cynicism and self-dealing of the American political class. Witness their ad-libbed decision, at the 11th hour and on the basis of no legal authority, to create a special exemption for themselves from the ObamaCare health coverage that everybody else is mandated to buy.

The Affordable Care Act requires Members of Congress and their staffs to participate in its insurance exchanges, in order to gain first-hand experience with what they’re about to impose on their constituents. Harry Truman enrolled as the first Medicare beneficiary in 1965, and why shouldn’t the Members live under the same laws they pass for the rest of the country?

Millions of Americans and Businesses are being adversely affected by the Affordable Care Act Legislation.  It is inconceivable that so many politicians are choosing to ignore the requests of the American People to stop the implementation of the Bill at this time. But this has been their plan all along and Mr. O says hell nor high water is not going to stop them. To quote the usually articulate President this week….”It is not about you…they are messing with me”. Let’s recognize the rights of the people to disagree and act as a leader sir…citizens don’t like your policy…you have lived on being liked for far too long.

Certainly politicians now turning a deaf ear to the public will at some time soon have to face them and answer as to why they chose not to speak up with any objections other than…”this was voted in by the Congress, the Senate, the President and the Supreme Court and no matter how bad it is or how much damage it will do…we will keep this Bill in place”. This answer truthfully translates into…(“we slammed this health care bill down Republican throats because we owned the House, the Senate, the Presidency,  and the lame stream biased Media…and it really didn’t matter what the American people thought about it…they are not smart enough to understand it anyway-we want a federal health care program”).

The Bill was rushed through passage without reading it in the middle of the night by Democrats only, with Nancy Pelosi saying “we have to pass this 2700 page bill to find out what is in it”. The 2700 pages have now been interpreted into 20,000 pages of HHS regulations, most of which are very destructive to people, businesses and the economy of this country. I repeat, more than 1400 waivers have been given by the President to exempt thousands of people and organizations, especially Congress, from the Bill.  This is the height of hipocrosy. The implementation is not on schedule and some factions have received waivers like business which has been granted a one year delay…whereas such a delay has been denied for the public.

In my humble opinion the idiom “pig In a poke” truly applies to the Affordable Health Care Act. Others say it was passed  by “bait and switch” or “sleight of hand”. It will be up to the American voting public to decide if they will consider this to be true and to accept what is being thrust upon them.
